ArtFest UM '07

18Jan07, the day for competition for "Muzik Akustik". Actually we weren't that confident, cause our songs were tad too simple and clean, and the instrumental song was so short where both songs barely reach 6 minutes together, and some bands eventually reach the 10 minutes mark maximum. So we just embrace ourselves and played it relax and just pure enjoy. During our rehearsal, one guy even tel me that our songs are boring, sigh.


However, when the master of ceremony announce the results. One by one, from the fifth...fourth...third...second...yet our names are not called. I was frown. I was sad and disappointed. Suddenly came the voice,

"Tempat Pertama...Kolej Kediaman Pertama!!!"

Man!! At that very moment i was so happy, so excited, cause i never even dream of getting 1st place in the competition. One of the band mates even told me that he miss a few notes and chords and was just acting as if he is playing. Yet, we won, cause of the clean and simple sound. Overjoy, but had to head back to hostel to practice for the competition on the next day.





We practice late that night, and I was pretty excited for that i have a slappin' bass solo in the songs, yet very worried, cause I'm not good at it yet. End up, having the drummer cover up for me a bit haha.


We wore blazers to show our macho-ness for the pop band songs on 19Jan07. Our vocalist has a very nice voice, very thick and sweet. Thanks to that she was awarded the best vocalist of the night. And since there's no bassist doing any solos over the whole competition, my slappin' solo stand out among the others, and got myself the best bassist award haha. That was simple.


In the end, we only manage to get 2nd placing with just a slight difference of 2 marks with the champion band. Just that little to be champion, sigh. Anyway 2nd place is good enough, I'm not that good yet.





It had been quite a memory for me in the hostel's band, alot of memories, from the beginning when i rush home to get my bass for audition, then make it into the band, do shows for the hostel, go for competition, get to know Kak Etthy "Best Keyboardist ArtFest'06 UM" , Zaid, the very semangat lead guitarist who gav us so much support along the way, and Pakcik Kamal, our coach who makes me start learning slapping bass techniques. Thanks so much, but now i wonder if i'll still play for hostel's band next time? Since i already left the hostel, i wonder if i'll come back next time.


I still remember the 1st song we played on the stage, after the audition way back in 2005. "Mungkin Nanti" by Peter Pan,

Sudahlah lepaskan semua kuyakin inilah waktunya

"Dan mungkin bila nanti kita kan bertemu lagi...saat semua disini..." Till we meet again, where all my memories were lay here, the nights when we practice over the night till 3am in the morning, the nights when we struggle to play our parts well. The funny moments, the hardships and the laughter in the studio, and every single smile that I see on your face, shining, to our hard work which yield results over our expectations. Thank you all, for giving me such an unforgettable experience.
